Africa was known as the Dark Continent because of the mystery that surrounded it as it was not visited by many people and most people hardly knew much about it. That is not the case anymore, yet travelling to Africa is considered an adventure because of the variety of geographical regions that abound there and the diverse terrain, climate, animals and people that inhabit the continent. There are deep tropical forests so thick that light does not enter there, there are great rivers and mighty waterfalls, there are hundreds of miles of open grasslands and there are thousands of miles of desert lands. The widest biodiversity is found here and hundreds of different tribes and ethnic groups live on this vast continent.
Adventure Travel in Africa has become popular now as people are attracted to the many different kinds of tours that can be taken to explore this wonderful land. Adventure travel in Africa can include adventurous treks across the savannahs or grasslands; the wondrous Serengeti which is a unique ecosystem which hosts the largest mammal migration on the earth and which is considered as one of the natural wonders of the world. It can also include wildlife safaris where one can see all the animals that urban people see in zoos from really close quarters.
Unfortunately, this beautiful continent that has so much to offer in terms of natural wealth has been exploited and violated by man. The beautiful thick tropical forests are disappearing because of the greed of man who does not have the foresight to see that by destroying these finely balanced ecosystems, he is actually destroying the whole earth including his own home. To stop this destruction and to revive the old natural order of things many people and organizations are doing Volunteer Africa work which means that they live and work with non government and government bodies to mitigate the problems that have arisen in Africa because of the unthoughtful onslaught of man on nature.
There are many Volunteer Africa groups that work in different parts of Africa on different issues. Wildlife preservation, conservation of flora and fauna, preserving the ethnic culture of different tribal groups, scientific research concerning environmental issues etc. is the focus of such Volunteer Africa groups who also have programs to create awareness about these issues and encourage volunteers from all over the world, of different age groups and vocations to do work where it is needed on this continent.
Thus Africa can be a fantastic holiday destination where there is a lot to see and do and that is why Adventure Travel in Africa is growing in popularity. For the socially aware and concerned people there is a lot that can be done in Africa through Volunteer Africa work on ongoing and future projects of many organizations that are working here.
